I am a writer/journalist by eduction and profession but in recent years, I have begun to call myself a photographer. I’m mostly self-taught and probably a little obsessed, as I take a life-long interest in picture taking to a more serious level, shooting hundreds of photos every week. I have a husband who studied photography at university and he not only buys me most of my gear as birthday and Christmas presents, but he is also my number one source of technical help and a critical and valued eye (to counter all my wonderful friends who think everything I shoot is awesome!). I might even consider myself a semi-professional photographer, as I have been hired a few times to shoot events, landscape installations and family portraits.
I enjoy taking pictures of just about anything – from the sunsets/sunrises, wildlife and waterscapes at our summer cottage, to the bugs and flowers in my backyard. However, I am most personally rewarded by candid people captures, whether it be at an organized event/gathering or just somewhere out in public – street photography. I find people fascinating and love to catch an honest moment of life through my lens.
On a personal note, I am a transplanted Canadian, having moved to Upstate New York in 2000, and currently living a semi-retired life on the gulf coast of Florida. I am the mother of four wonderful adult sons who are often the subjects of my work. I also have a new step-granddaughter and she has had her picture taken by me a thousand times, at least.
I like RedBubble and the people I’ve “met” here….a very talented and inspiring lot. Thanks for all the encouragement you’ve given. I always try to return the kindness.
