David Doherty Vs Mechano's Machine by

This is a scene from a comic I developed a few years ago but never got around to making because, well… I got sidetracked with bigger, more exciting projects.

The man on the right is my hero, David Doherty, who has the ability to control the speed of which he refracts light through his body. He can slow it down and absorb all of the photons energy to make his body an extremely efficient solar sail enabling him to fly, if a bit clumsily. He can also speed up light as it passes through him pushing photons past the known speed of light producing devastating beams of focused photon energy that have enormous destructive ability. The catch is; using his body to accelerate the photons causes severe tissue damage not unlike internal radiation burns. He can use any part of his body to slow or speed up photons but the gauntlet David wears enables him to use his power relatively safely through his left arm. The gauntlet is a heavy device that absorbs the radiation and contains it in small cylindrical cases, like large shotgun shells.

Of course David has a rich back story that I haven’t space to tell here.

The Robot on the left is one of David rogues. The robot is remotely controlled by a villain who calls himself Mechano (working character name) Again, rich back story- very interesting. Not David’s main villain.

Great concept… The characters are really interesting… That David guy seems so determined and focused on kicking the robot’s ass.

  • Thanks, ZR.
Simultaneously; David’s sidekick (unpowered, medical, technician) is experiencing a personal tragedy after battling the villain whose controlling the robot in this picture.
