Stunningly simple, love the effect feels like is moving because of the low angle through he grass … love the subtle colouring too ..

I was wondering if we would see this angle after seeing the last one. You have perfected this one here Mike.
Mike de Lange replied
Thanks Ric, the potential was not so immediately obvious and I had to think about it for a while before tackling it. I’ve got a mono version of it too, which I’m fairly proud of.

Chetan Raghuram
how did you get that effect? camera or photoshop? if it is camera.. amazing.. photoshop: poor..
Mike de Lange replied
I welcome critique, good and bad, and foster personal opinions, but statements like this, without valuable supporting input, adds no value to my drive for constant improvement and learning. Thanks for visiting, and please feel free to back up your opinion with valuable advice.
Chetan Raghuram
well, thanks. you see many photos with photoshop effects. so its general that people think it might be photoshop.you should atleast mention how you’ve done it, i just cant say its a great shot like everybody you know.. what difference it would make me from other people, and what would you get if just more person adds”oh its great”? i can also add many things if it done with your camera or your imagination on spot, but if it photoshop, what else can i say other than poor? everyone can do effects, graphics or whatever, its unrealistic. i checked out ur pics, they are somewhat different, lot of photoshop work done(thats what i think from seeing them) you can tell me if they are not photoshopped. this is my way of thinking, no offence. if the bus was not like this? and you made it look like this in photoshop, its just creative imagination. not photography right? you tell me what you think now.
Mike de Lange replied
Though largely incomprehensible, I think you are lamenting the age old debate of “purist” vs “manipulated” photography, and your position on this is remarkable considering your age and experience level. If you are interested, I can perhaps refer you to some historic examples from great photography masters (from the darkroom ages) to further fuel your curiosity about whether photography is “real” or “fantasy”. However, I view photography as an art form and never profess to presenting a pure “journalistic” record. I embrace new technology and try to explore it’s possibilities, however far I wish to push it for any particular image. Some are successful attempts, others not, and I value opinions on that.
For the sake of clarity, this shot is “as shot” (nothing added or removed), with adjustments to tones, levels, contrast, saturation and sharpening. It was shot with a polariser filter which gave me the deep sky and soft reflections. Camera was mounted on a tripod and I waited for a slight breeze to pick up the movement of the grass with a slow shutter speed. There is actually a lot of “pure” photography behind the image.
Thank you for taking the time to think about my work.
Milos Markovic
Very impressive.
Chetan Raghuram
thanks for your reply, so is photography real or fantasy? and yes, photography is purely an art form, no doubt in that. i agree that there is pure photography behind the image, but not when you look at it from the front. and, photography doesnt have to be only journalistic :) . there are different forms in photography, and you dont have to only view it in the journalistic way or record. technology, is an interesting thing, i think when u over manipulate a image, then its not what you’ve seen or taken, its something different. we dont it see it this way, its fake then.its something unrealistic, photography isnt a unrealistic art form, its realistic, its what you see, its what people see. for example, if you photograph a object no one has ever seen and say its so and so. we dont believe it,because we know its not so and so and its something different. I am not against technology, i appreciate what you’ve done, then you cant say this is proper photography. i dont want this to be a debate or anything like that. i like some of your work. thanks for the explanation on how you’ve shot the picture.
. i’d appreciate your comments on my work if you have the time to look at it and stuff. cheers..
Mike de Lange replied
Chetan, again I appreciate your view, but I think you have selected the wrong forum and target to feed your arguments. Redbubble is a forum for the promotion of a wide range of art and expression, with an opportunity for it’s users to also sell their art. There are more appropriate forums where you can debate your surprisingly rigid views, and express and expose yourself in an appropriate critical environment. I don’t want to openly promote some of those other forums here, but you can find me on a number of those sites where you can crit my work as much as you want, and amongst others that will surely be tactful and open minded enough to assist you in becoming the same. I wish to close this argument here, and for the sake of respect towards you, will not delete your posted views.

Great!

Great work – visually appealing and provocative | regardless of the technology used (or not used).

Nothing poor about this, photshopped or not. An amazingly clear and vivid image of decay. Brilliant.

That should be “photoshopped” obviously…
