Houmas House Plantation Mansion aka the “Crown Jewel of Louisiana’s River Road” was completed in 1828 and for a century thereafter was a center of Louisiana sugar production. In fact, the planation grew to its apex in the late 1800s when it was producing a monumental 20 million pounds of sugar annually!! In 1963 the defining Betty Davis film “Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte” was shot on the property and the room in which Ms. Davis stayed while filming is preserved as a part of today’s Houmas House tour.
