These are three avid fans of the Giro d’Italia (a professional cycle race that is only slightly less prestigious than the Tour de France), waiting patiently for the riders to come through the local town. No matter how avid a fan you are, though, waiting for over an hour in the same spot can get quite boring – and these people are clearly bored.
For the record, all the riders in the race flashed by this spot in less than 30 seconds. It’s a long time to wait for such a brief encounter with the race.
And yes, I was there specifically to catch the race and try to get some decent action shots of the riders – an aspiration I signally failed in achieving. Oh well, there’s always next year.
