  • PhotosEcosse

    PhotosEcosse

Ditto what Karl says, dare I mention the PS word ? Sssshhh!!

  • outwest photog... replied

Hi Barbara . . the PS Word! . . certainly, to convert from RAW to 8 bitt tiff, then to png. or jpg for these guys at RB. As with shingle tingle and Cold Worbarrow all these slow exposure shots are straight shots, with some ccorrections in the RAW state. [using Capture One for highlight and shadow balance] I do not do HDR, not that I have a problem with that I just don’t care for the effect. I have used Picture Style adjustment in camera to increase or decrease colour, tone & contrast and generally shot in Landscape Sytle setting [ unless indoors] generally I shoot with W B cloudy as I find AWB sometimes a bit ‘blue’ in exposures over say 1/10 sec. I have adjusted colour temps in camera on occasion. What exactly is the colour of Wet, Purbeck pebbles in low light? I don’t know? but they looked good on that evening . . :)

In cases of extreme contrast or light balanace I have shot both for light and dark, or Bracketed images which are blended later. This is often seen as digital equivilent of using ND Grads on the lens. Guy Edwardes a local Dorset based professional openly supports this process in his books / public presentations

Where ever adjustment is made I hope to retain the image looking as natural and as near as the conditions as when the exposure was made. Not always possible at slow exposure timings as the eyes see it very differently [usually very dark! ] :)

. . I hope this does’nt sound to defensive, but merely explains my take on digital photography . . .

    M @ O W P

  • PhotosEcosse

    PhotosEcosse

NO, doesn’t sound defensive to me, and as for Guy Edwardes, – probably my fave Landscaper !! He reckons that using your method is less harmful to a good image than using an ND grad, I am with him on that !!
My take is that we make , not take, an image, but you already know that from a previous conversation, LOL !!!

  • outwest photog... replied

. . . . well now that we concur on our principles and approach, I need to concentrate on the location research and some new material ? . . . shame I can’t get back to your patch and that wonderful scenery! . .well not just yet . . but watch this space!!

. . I’m going after some sports activity this w/end; what about you?
