perhaps just one entry per person?

The unleashed competition seems a bit out of control. People are adding the unleashed07 tag to almost every photo they upload, making trawling through the entries a bit long winded and pointless.

Perhaps RB can limit it for the next comp to just one image per person? It’ll make the quality much higher!

I understand where you are coming from, Michael, and it is a good point to raise. However I think one entry per person is a bit harsh – perhaps two or three entries might be more realistic. I say this because people are producing work all the time, and if someone entered something last week and finds they produce something much better this week it would be a shame not to allow the new work into the competition, and for us not to be able to vote on it. And, as an aside, I don’t think it is helpful (or very nice) to isolate one person in this instance, or mention any names at all, of people who have more than one image in the competition, especially as there were no rules in that respect. I have more than one image too, as do a lot of other people…............. But yes, I think it would be a good idea to put a restriction on the number of entries in the future.

Thanks for your suggestion Michael. We are looking at a few different ways to run the next competition, including a more specific voting system (other than adding to your favourites). We really appreciate the feedback and will consider it for the next comp.

@whirligig: i didn’t mean to be harsh (removed name), i realise many people have more than one entry, but most people seem to limit it to at least just 3 or 4.
The rules do state that “Multiple entries are permitted”, but within other communities (like Flickr) it would be considered spamming or flooding a group or competition to add so many entries and I don’t take nicely to spammers :/

Just a quick note on this too… the Digital Image Prize is now closed and voting has also closed – the shortlist will be announced tomorrow in BubbleWrap.

That’s cool Michael…...I understand. This is the first time I’ve ever entered a comp like this so was not aware of the potential spamming problem.
PS. How do I change comments that have already been added??

To let you know your not alone Michael.

    I only made one entry.

Was thinking my entry would be missed by many seeing i posted so early in the comp. and the flood of entries that followed.

You get that in the big wide world though don’t you. Humans do have the tendency to get a little excited. And seeing as i class myself as human….

I don’t think you can change comments Whirligig. Thus my silly spelling mistakes and incorrect english.

In the end i’m sure that the winners will be well deserving of their prize.

Seeing a sea of entries, I do understand your concern now. It seems there is so many entries from one or two people, and previous ones are lost in the background.

If it’s any consolation, it would’ve been the same for the photo comp. I came into “viewing” entries for the comp very late. Some of the short listed ones, I never even saw on the front pages. Hopefully, that should be something encouraging.

Perhaps there could be a separation of categories… Photographs, Artwork, Short Stories and maybe a few others… what about categories such as landscapes, nature, weather, cityscapes, people etc? I guess the list could be endless!!!

Also, there may be some value in restricting the number of entries per participant, but I am not sure how many that should be. As the number of “members” on the redbubble site seems to rapidly increase, this number issue will become more important in the next competition. Mind you, the content is increasingly interesting and full of great ideas that we can all learn from.

Also, the means of determining the shortlist could have a double edged sword… selection by the redbubble participants and other entries selected by a panel of “specialists” in each area… just a thought for consideration. Not an easy task for any specialist though.

I totally agree with the one entry per person idea. It makes people really think about their work and assess which is the BEST one to enter given the conditions. The current competition is waaaayyy too huge, and people are just tagging everything.

    One entry per person! gogogo!

Congratulations Redbubble on the unleashed07 ideas and the daily improvements. I actually enjoyed “ploughing” through the entries /learnt from others/realised the brilliance of many minds and broke the rules by having too many entries because I did not read the rules. Michael you may think it was out of control /I never noticed but then again I love out of control.

Nah…. one entry per person is too restricting. If people kept to the rules and had the entry as per the specs of the competition ie unleashed, then they couldn’t just tag anything. I agree with Shanghaiwu… trawling through all the entries is intruiging… you never know what you find!
