A long journey home

A collaboration and poem inspired by this image by Artmonger named Hinton Station.

I tried to portray it through the eyes of a child left behind, no one he knows around him as they all left, nothing he knows and everything he feels. Hope you all enjoy it!

Little feet patter down the line
Big conductor man yells
“One at a time”
People push to get on board
Lives at stake in times of war
Bags and possessions left strewn all over
What do they matter in times of darkness?
Look after yourself thats all that matters
The greed of men left unmeasured.

Fall through the cracks are the most vulnerable
Separated in such chaotic times
Tearful emotions filling up inside
Watch mother from the window
“Shes forgotten me!”
She sits composed, none the wiser.

Double take.

Small child standing on the platform alone
She makes a move
Spurts of steam
Nothing to hear but inaudible screams
Shes at the door
Train starts moving

Child runs
“Mother im coming!”
Grasping her fingers
World starts blurring
Feelings of defeat suddenly grip

Things happen
Child trips
When things clear hes all alone
Wondering when mother will come to take him home.
