These ballerinas are so sweet, love their hair buns and pearl-like accessories on the hair :D Just curious, why do you name them sugar plums? :D

  • migaloomagic replied

thank you very much Ellen…in answer to your question….there is a ballet called “The Nutracker” and one of the dances in the ballet is called The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (you can see it on utube here
or read about it more here in Act II if you scroll down the page :D

When i was little i was a ballerina…i got on my toes/point shoes at the age of 10….i have always been fascinated by dance :D and ballerinas…my grandma took me to the Sydney Opera House when I was a little girl to see a real ballet. It was Sleeping Beauty. She bought me a beautiful book about the Sleeping Beauty Ballet full of whimsical illustrations…such a sad tale, and she inscribed it on the inside cover for me…..it is a treasure I still have to this day…the music was composed by Tchaikovsky. The Book itself was illustrated by Shigeru Atsuyama

thank you so much for the interest you’ve shown, i really enjoyed going back to my ballet days and looking up the book and the artist…until now, i had not realised the artist was japanese…perhaps i was being drawn to asian art from a much younger age than i realised…I was born in 1965 and did ballet from the age of 4 til the age of 12 when i had to leave due to a relocation and lack of ballet schools in the area. It was a terribly sad thing to give up the dance. Some of my friends and acquaintances entered/were accepted into the Australian Ballet..I was so proud to know them.

ps…i just looked in my Swan Lake and read the inscription.
I saw the Kirov Ballet perform Swan Lake in 1974 when I was
9 years old…both my grandma and grandpa have passed on,
i found they have both written in it to commemorate the day we
spent together….it really takes me back..
