She must have lots of nerve, that girl… or no fear. Sitting on top of half a ton of agitated horse ain’t my idea of a picnic. Great shot, Mieke.

  • Yep – they’re very talented horsewomen and men at Home Valley. Amazing to watch!

Horse is prolly saying “Hey, this is not my best side, no shooting, no shooting!” ;) Beaut catch, Mieke!

  • I think you’re probably right ;) Lol! Either that or he’s saying “This is totally dumb. Why am I chasing them round in circles? Let’s put them in the yard, already!!!”

Great shot and timing Mieke….but the horse was probably used to being photographed with a Canon and was worried about his image

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly, he shouldn’t have been worried. In fact, if I remember correctly, there was a Canon shooter off to the right – I think Rum was probably just trying to give the Nikon the better angle ;)

  • Ha ha ha!! It also got in my camera and buggered up the shutter mechanism. But it’s all good now :)

This brings back memories for me Mieke, I used to be a Jillaroo, had a standard bred horse and she was terrific with the cows, I used to round up a hundred head by myself and loved it. Wonderful lighting and I like the sepia :o)x

  • :) Thanks, Josie. That must’ve had its moments… and plenty of good times too. I learned “Clancy of the Overflow” by heart when I was at Uni and I just love the way Banjo Patterson describes the drover’s life… It’s easy to romanticise, but I’m sure there are truly special moments in amongst the hard yakka!!
