The Pont du Gard (the bridge over the Gard River near Remoulins in Southern France) is an astounding feat of Roman ingenuity. It is an aqueduct that ran for 50km and provided the town of Nîmes with water (and subsequently, prosperity) in the 1st century AD. I got up early and braved the misty country laneways and was rewarded with a sunrise I’ll never forget!
