It was so beautiful, and well worth stubbing my toes in the dark and getting cold, wet feet for! The only problem is that I had just acquired my very first ND400 (aka “Black Glass”) do do some long exposures and didn’t find out until I got back home and uploaded my photos that almost all of them were ruined by a large magenta splodge :( Oh well, I’ll just have to go back!

I’m just an Aussie girl who’s a bit mad about photography :)

How come that happened? Certainly an unusual effect.
Which? The gold or the splodge? The gold was from the light on the gorge walls. The magenta splodge was a flaw in the glass/its coating.

Thanks so much, Paul!

Lovely shot Mieke, got to love the dynamic range in that D800! Smooth……..
Yes, I have never made a better purchase (hmmm… well, it only narrowly beats the one I made towards the end of last year – lol!). I just parted with some more hard-earned $$ for a Widey to go with it (coz the Sigma and the D800 don’t quite speak the same language)… I’m so excited for it to arrive! Yay!

Lovely work Mieke. Beautiful exposure and that orange glow has me intrigued :-)
Thanks, Maxwell! It’s the glow from the early morning light on the gorge walls :)

This is absolutely gorgeous. Love the silky white against the dark textured rocks and that gorgeous orange of the light reflecting. You have some beautiful scenery over your way!
Thanks so much, Christina :) I definitely DO have some beautiful scenery up my “neck of the woods” !!!

Beautiful Mieke, lovely part of the world. My next “I want” is a black glass filter
They’re amazing. I love that you can actually take a photo of something that doesn’t exist in real time. Something you can’t see with your mere mortal eyes… you have to imagine it before you take the photo. It makes you look at the world a bit differently! Thank you, Dharna! Hope you can get one soon!!
