This was an unforgettable dawn.
I got up early and navigated the ridiculously narrow roads to arrive at the Pont du Gard before sunrise…. and as the rising sun filtered through the arches of the ancient aqueduct and coloured the whole world golden, I honestly gasped in astonishment . It was truly a divine moment. I hope I’ve been able to convey even a fraction of the wonder I felt when I was there.

The Pont du Gard (the bridge over the Gard River) is an astounding feat of Roman ingenuity. It is an aqueduct that ran for 50km and provided the town of Nîmes with water (and subsequently, prosperity) in the 1st century AD.
