The Standing Bow by Mieke Boynton

Currently unavailable for purchase

Somewhere near the Great Northern Highway, on the Leopold Downs Road, in the Kimberley, Western Australia.
I don’t take many ‘people photos’, so when I found out that Jonathan would happily go through some yoga poses while I snapped away with my camera, I jumped at the chance. The only thing was, considering how remote we were, and how sharp the rocks were, and how high the ledge was, and how steep the drop on either side of said ledge was, we probably could’ve picked a better place to experiment.
I was absolutely thrilled with my photos, but we were a little less than thrilled when some slight overbalancing occurred. I don’t think when they say “leave only footprints”, they mean “in blood”!!
Please, please, please don’t try unless there’s a hospital nearby!!!

You need that disclaimer that says " no yogis were hurt during the filming of this movie" :)

  • :) :) :) Unfortunately, I would be lying!!

Wow, it’s an awesome image, Mieke… really impressing… Hope Jonathan is all right now? (he did survive, did he? ;) )

  • Thanks, Steppe. Yeah, he’s absoluetly fine, but he quite seriously could’ve killed himself. We were VERY lucky!

That’s a great pose, what a prefect location for it, and as long as the camera isn’t damaged then all is well ;)

Top shot Mieke, (got it right that time :-)

  • No camera damage, no Mieke damage, only minor damage to Jonathan ;)
    Thanks, Matt!

Next time he needs to be able to over balance onto sand, ok? :D He certainly does do that pose well!

  • Yeah. I’ll remember to insist on that next time ;) He does look good, doesn’t he? (tee hee hee… wonder if he reads the comments?)

:) least i got a great photo to go with the memory hehe… Yes it could have been a lot worse but I should be good enough to go rock climbing by the weekend :)

  • :) :) :) There are a few other good ones too. And considering that all is fine now, I’m kinda stoked that you were such a great model. :) :) :) You WERE lucky though!!
(And so was I… it freaks me out when I think of what I would’ve had to do if you HAD knocked yourself unconscious … or worse!!)

wow ~ this really rocks !!! dangerous perhaps, but oh so worthy ~ I like the way his form imitates the rock face ~ and the light and tones, textures all work so well ~ kudos to both of you xx

  • Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, Linda!!! :) We really did have fun doing this (until the end!)

As a yoga teacher… I can completely appreciate this :) And the difficulty of capturing it (blood, sweat, and tears… lol). Great pose and beautiful capture.

  • :) :) :) He’s pretty good, isn’t he?? Thanks heaps, Jen. He ran me through a session while he was here… I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would absolutely do it again if I had the opportunity!! :)
