I just returned home after the most unbelievably fantastic photography workshop at Karijini National Park, in the Pilbara (Western Australia). It was conducted by Tony Hewitt, Christian Fletcher and Peter Eastway… and I learned so much!!! The three of them are all outstanding photographers and terrific teachers and I had an absolute blast!
This photo is taken in Hancock Gorge, looking down the Spider Walk.

This is very special Mieke, best way I can describe it is that it reminds me of an opal.
Thanks, John. This is my favourite place in Karijini, and I’ve been so lucky… Each time I’ve visited (three times now), I’ve had the place to myself – and during this trip, I actually spent two and a half hours alone in this gorge. I can’t tell you how soul-fulfilling the experience was. It really is a special place :)

Lucky me, huh? They’re so funny, those three – they spend most of the time bagging each other :) :) :) Their work is simply beyond amazing… so inspiring!

=D =D =D
I almost didn’t make it though – the floodwaters were predicted to go over the Wilare Bridge mid-way between Broome and Derby (which they did) and had I not left four days before schedule, I wouldn’t have made it at all. As it was, I just spent four days camping before the workshop started… and made the most of the experience, of course ;)

Glad you had a good trip Mieke and looking forward to seeing more of your shots if this is a taste for what you got up to.
The lighting is insanely intense and that swirl of water in the centre is just mindblowingly eye captivating as are the grooved ridges of rock that run eitherside of it.
simply put – just beautiful
Simply put – thanks heaps. You always write the best comments, Stuart!!

You are so on my wavelength, Liesbeth! I spent a good amount of time just soaking up the atmosphere… but I spent an equally good amount of time with my camera in front of me :)
It was absolutely awesome. In the true sense of the word :)

Awesome photo. That place is definitely on my list of places to go. Cheers Jan
Try and bump it up to #1 on your list… it’s an incredibly beautiful place. But make sure you’re fit! The path into this place is not for the faint-hearted!
