Beautiful light on this Mieke. It is a real favourite subject this tree.

  • Thanks, Terry! Yes, it is a favourite subject… It is just so alone and gnarled and somehow it strikes a chord with most people. I think it’ must be one of Victoria’s (if not Australia’s!!) most photographed trees!

What a contrast to the Sydney Botanical Gardens where I was on Monday! You’ve really captured the light beautifully on that tree, Mieke, and its trunk. I thought of you when I saw a boab at the Gardens hehe.

  • Poor boab :( I bet it doesn’t really like being in Sydney! Sunrise and Sunset are almost always the best times of day to photograph pretty much anything. The way the light ‘models’ and gives shape to objects is unlike that at any other time of the day. I was lucky to be there at sunset!

    Wonderful light and cloud pattern

  • This is from when you and John took me there, Hans! Thank you for meeting us – it was a very memorable evening and it always makes me smile to think of us all trying to keep out of each other’s way to get our shots :)

Gorgeous capture, gorgeous light and clouds. I’ve just come home from the shops were I saw the Australian Photograpy magazine. I thought I recognised your work on the cover so had to look inside and sure enough there you were looking back at me. Congratulations Mieke.

  • Yay!! Thank you, Chris!! I only got my copy in the mail yesterday (although I got sick of waiting and picked up a couple of copies while I was in Perth on Sunday!!). I’m so happy with the way they did it! I still don’t know who nominated me to do the segment, but I’m very grateful!

One of my fav trees. Love the starkness of the land to show off the single tree.

  • I love it too :) Thanks, Mel. Big hug!

Beautiful Mieke, the light and sky are superb! :)))

  • Thanks again, Mate. Wish you lived just up the road… It’d be great to catch up for a cuppa (or a wine)!
