Thank you for 5 years of bubbling!

I noticed today that it’s my RedBubble five year anniversary this month!

For five years RedBubble has provided a place for me to:
- share my photography on a free and dynamic platform with you wonderful people, and with the rest of the world
- be part of an incredibly talented artistic community
- be constantly inspired by astounding Visual Art of all genres and media
- meet other Bubblers from all over the World: in Tassie for Fagus Week , in Melbourne for our photo walks , and when Bubblers have come to the Kimberley and sent me a Bubblemail so that we can do a shoot together. It has been such a pleasure to meet so many amazing artists!
- make life-long friends :) :) :)
- sell more than 850 photographic items online, and purchase my own work to sell at my weekend market stall

IPW Indonesia - Day 7 - Love Hill (Labuan Bajo) - Sukarara Village and Senggigi Beach (Lombok)

By this stage of my adventure, it was clear that Landscape Photographers were outnumbered. Actually, that’s an understatement. Of the entire group of 46 people (counting the invited photography delegates, the organisers and the photographers’ guests who were mostly also photographers), there were only three of us who identified ourselves specifically as Landscape Photographers. The first was our fearless and carefree tour leader Rizal Amir, the second was the friendly seascape-fanatic Wesley Law and the third was yours truly.

On the evening of Day 6, Rizal and Wesley had a chat to some local photographers while we were staying at the hotel in Labuan Bajo, and these generous locals offered them a ride to one of their favourite places for a dawn shoot.

Some pretty exciting news...

I think I am the luckiest woman alive.

Last year, you might remember (or might not) that I won the Kimberley Photographic Award with this photo of my dog Banjo:

Exit Stage Left
by Mieke Boynton

You know what they say about lightning striking twice? It doesn’t.

Usually.

I entered this year’s Awards for one main reason: because last year, I was really unhappy with one of the Terms&Conditions, and I made a big fuss about them, and then the organisers made some big changes and now they’re great. So I thought I should show my appreciation for the effort they made to improve it for photographers. But I really didn’t think I had a chance.

So it was with utter disbelief that I received a text message from my friend (and well-known Broome photographer) Nigel Gaunt saying …

Mister Banjo gets yet another Bone :)

This time, it was so big he couldn’t lift it :) :) :)

The Inaugural Kimberley Photographic Awards were announced in Derby on Saturday Night… with the Overall Award being worth $2000 (from Sponsor Totally Workwear ) plus a $500 Scenic Flight from Slingair Heliwork WA

Thank you VERY MUCH to the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley, and to all the judges and sponsors. Big events like this don’t just happen – HUGE thanks to the hours and hours put in by Caz and the crew!!!

Big congrats to fellow Bubbler Mark Ingram too!

One Year On...

Sometimes there’s cause for a small celebration of a milestone, and sometimes it’s nice to celebrate with some friends instead of in your own head…

…so I’d like to share with you that today it’s one whole year since the opening of my Exhibition at Indulgence Cafe in Derby!

It was only supposed to be a three-month exhibition, but somewhere along the line, the owners changed their minds and decided that they were happy to continue the Exhibition indefinitely. Which actually means that I now have a gallery of approximately 20 RB prints hanging in a busy and spacious cafe!

It’s an opportunity to thank the Indulgence team (especially Annalisa and Jodie), and RB for making this possible in a practical way…

…but mostly, I’d like to than…

Thank you, anonymous buyers!

I have resisted writing journal entries about sales, because part of me thinks they’re a bit dodgy and a bit “ooh, look at me!!”……….

……..but I really don’t like the idea that someone here HAS bought something and I haven’t said “thank you!!”… so if it’s you who bought any of the following, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude.

I don’t know who you wonderful people are, but you have been the cause of much happy dancing in the kitchen!

And thank you also to my not-so-anonymous buyers – Tula, Jonathan, Mel, Tempe, Dieter, Mischa, Iwona and Neil & Di … it means so much when artists decide your work is good enough for their walls (or to wear!!)

And while I’m…

My Exhibition Opening :)

Well, my Exhibition Opening happened and it was more awesome than I could have possibly dreamed!

(I DID have a dream about it actually… I dreamed that it was kind of hijacked by a drama troupe and an MTV music video cast… but that’s a whole other story!!)

I’m kind of having trouble putting my feelings into words…. but fellow Bubbler and Derby resident Mark Ingram took some fabulous photos on the night so I’ll let them do some of the talking!!

Thanks so much, Mark !!! Please go and check out his work… he is a fantastic photographer!

… and here’s one from whoever I gave my camera to (I was so flustered that I can’t remember! Mum’s the one in the blue top… she’s the best!!!)

I was amazed by the support shown to me…

...and it just keeps getting better!

Well, I thought being asked to hang my paintings on the walls of a brand new cafe was the ‘bees knees’, but on Saturday night, I found out that I wasn’t quite at the summit of my good-luck mountain yet …

… because although the winner of the “Prints on Canvas” section was announced as “Mike Boynton”, the name of the winning photograph in the Kimberley Art Prize was A Kimberley Skyscape and I was pretty sure that mine was the only one with that title!

It is the first Major Art Prize I have won, and I’d like to thank the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley for hosting such a prestigious and acclaimed event, and the judges for selecting my photo, and Buru Energy for the $1000.00 in prize money (yes, as my young friend Rori so accurately p…
