Fagus Week 2014

Hi all!
Just a super-quick note to remind people that “Fagus Week” – our RedBubbler week of fun, friendship and photography at Cradle Mountain in Tasmania is on again in April. This will be the fifth Fagus Week for the fabulous Tinnieopener, the delightful ClaireBear and intrepid explorer Rob Mullner

I had so much fun last year … and I’m thrilled that most of the regular RedBubble “family” are returning again… but I’m equally excited that we’ll be joined by Bubblers from as far afield as the Cocos (Keeling) Islands… and the USA!!

We’ll of course be hoping that Tinnie has timed it right for the “Turning of the Fagus” when the native deciduous beech tree (the Fagus) changes colour from green to yellow to orange to red and changes the colour of the entire mountainside. It’s truly spectacular to see.

If anyone’s considering travelling to Tassie in April (or they’re already there), I’d strongly recommend that you join us for a day or the week… but you WILL need to book your accommodation VERY soon. Have a quick read of Tinnie’s Journal here and please get in touch with Claire or ring the Discovery Holiday Park in Cradle Mountain to make arrangements!!

Here are just a few of my favourites from last year to convince you (if you need convincing!!)… and you can read last year’s journal here

Oh wow! What a great collection Mieke. Sounds like a great week but I doubt that I will be there. Too much other travel planned. But you never know ….. :)

  • You never know… :)
And besides, there’s always next year!!

Wonderful images Mieke and I am tempted to go. Must think about it quickly.

  • It’s a fabulous week. Plenty to do… and just like our little Photo Walk, there are plenty of opportunities to “choose your own adventure”. There are group walks that you can be involved in, but often people choose to go their own way for the day. But yes – you don’t have much time left to decide, Peter!

If this is on again next year, would definitely be interested in joining, unfortunately will be in Africa this year snapping lions instead of fagus!!

  • Hi Karine! It has become an annual event, but as always, it will depend on the cooperation of the Discovery Holiday Park in Cradle Mountain. I’m sure Mark (Tinnieopener) will be able to tell us whether it’ll be on again next year.
(Ha!! “Unfortunately….” she says… You lucky thing!!!)

How will you top these wonderful images Mieke ?
I know conditions will be different and with the new 15mm Zeiss I’m sure you will manage to get some ripper images.

  • Thanks, Ian!!! I hope we’ll get some sun this year… and there are lots of places I didn’t get to last year so I’m looking forward to doing more “exploring”!! And yes – I’m sure my 15mm will be well-used :) :) :)

    A fantastic portfolio, Mieke!!

We are in March at Cradle Mountain. It would have been great to meet photographers from Redbubble and take photos together with them!!
    Cheers Angelika

  • Thank you, Angelika! What a shame that we will miss each other by one month!!
Maybe you can come next year?

WOW these are just magnificent Mieke. Sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe one day I will be able to make it. Do you run them every year?

  • Thank you, Anthea!! It really is a lot of fun, and it would be FANTASTIC if you could make it! It has been an annual event around the same week every year – this will be the 5th one. Whether we do it again in 2015 will depend on the cooperation of the Discovery Holiday Park in Cradle Mountain, but I can’t see why they wouldn’t say “yes”!!

Mieke what does one do about transport? If one flies into Launceston how does one get the Cradle Mountain?

  • You hire a car for a week… or alternatively, find out from Claire whether there’s anyone arriving/leaving at the same time as you so that you can share the cost with someone. Otherwise, there’s always the ferry to Devonport..??
