We have no idea how these beautiful flowers came to be growing in our container garden, as we certainly did not plant them. They came back every June for three or four years, swaying gently on their slender stems in the summer breezes.
Captivated by their stunning colour, people often used to ask their name, but we were unable to enlighten them, as we had no idea ourselves. It turns out that they are called “ixia” and are members of the iris family and native to Southern Africa! The unframed version of the picture is available upon request. Captured with my Canon PowerShot S3 IS camera in Auto mode.
