Such a cruel disease micmac, & to think there are so many people with this pain & suffering, also that there is no cure for it, she is at peace now I’m sure, my thoughts are with you guys.

I see hands like this every day (I work at a nursing home)...but never have they seemed so beautiful…Maria would have loved this.

Such a terrible disease isn’t it, I remember my Nana suffereing terribly. Its a beautiful soft image, and one I am sure she would have been proud of ..

Arthritis is such a painful disease, I believe she would be happy to be finally released from it. Thank you so much for sharing this image and story and so, so sorry for Maria’s passing.

My grandma has hands just like that – she is in her mid 80s and has lived with crippling arthritis since her 40s. She never complains – just accepts it and adapts. It’s not a sad thing – it’s just a fact of life for so many people.

Such a moving image , that poor lady must have been in agony , I have it in my fingers but nowhere near on that scale ,so I have some idea how much pain she must have gone through. It is a wonderful shot .

excellent image along with a very sad story, you have a job that i feel i couldnt do, it would rip my heart out daily to watch these people go thru this and not have their family close by, at least they have you, a person with a lot of passion and love to give. im glad she is free of pain, it makes one wonder why life such a so called “prosperous” life, to only end up in this condition, she is in a better place and she did have a wonderful person to help her get there, beautiful shot Gisele

Gigi, This is an amazing shot of twisted hands tortured by a crippling disease that most often afflicts the elderly. Your generous heart helped to set her free from the prison of pain that held her captive. Her hands reflect a gentle spirit enhanced by the delicate butterfly in her hand. What a profound testament to a brave soul captured by your tender and loving heart. It is the elderly that need us most, but sadly are ignored or placed in nursing homes to endure another pain, isolation and the agony of abandonment and loneliness. In many cultures the elderly are revered, not discarded and thrown away when they become an inconvenience. She was fortunate to have such a kind and loving soul to ease her pain.
