Wan

My entry for May’s 2nd Flash Fiction Challenge Missing: based on my picture Swan

Wan belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Compassion, Courage & Friendship and Flash Fiction

The crossbow bolt had gone through his neck and, in his panic, his little heart stopped beating. She looked sorrowfully at the boys, nuzzled her mate’s limp body, and hid her eyes with her wings.

Winter came and she faced it alone in sorrow.
The boys were never away from the lake, taunting her, and ruining her solitude.
The deep waters of the former quarry seldom froze, and when they did the boys were straight on the ice.
They chased her, but she didn’t panic, she led them to where ice was thinnest.
By the time anyone came looking, there was nothing to see, the hole had iced over.

When the spring came she preened herself, but never again would she feel the gentle touch of his beak, nor would she have to endure the boys taunting.

I will never feel the same about the beautiful innocence of a swans white wings! This is a fantastically creative piece, well done. Tanya

Excellent! Good for her, I say. I love to watch the swans, they are magnificent creatures. Although they do love to push the Canada geese around, over here.

  • Micky McGuinness replied

    Hi WA
Just make sure that you don’t try and intervene! A swan can break a human leg with a clean blow from it’s wing!
    Glad you liked it.
    Cheers

Incredible story, I loved the way the swan so cleverly got her revenge and yet still mouned her loss.

  • Micky McGuinness replied

    Thanks Janine
I know it sounds strange, but I wanted the swan to retain it’s dignity throughout.
    Cheers

Hey, that’s so cool, to have a story to go with your own picture. You’ve captured the essence of a “bitter revenge” in this, brilliantly. I like it.

  • Micky McGuinness replied

Thanks, it seems such a sad and dignified bird, and it was all alone.
I thought that there must be a story behind it, so I made one up for it.
I hope it’s not true though!

Wow, Micky. Uh, this is good stuff. I think it could be true.

  • Micky McGuinness replied

Thanks Zolton, It could be true, but I hope it’s not…

Awwww – the poor swan lady! I felt so sad after reading this. As they say, revenge is a dish best served cold – she sure got those boys!

  • Micky McGuinness replied

I’m glad it had an effect on you, and that you enjoyed the story.
    Cheers
