The Rains Are Here (best large)

Last week i went with a mate to Mt Field National Park for 3 days and we were planning to get on the top part of the mountain called The Tarn Shelf, but it visibility was so poor and rain so consistent that the chance of getting any photos would have been pretty poor, so we decided to just shoot the waterfalls and rivers/creeks, it was good to just walk around at a casual pace.
We’ve haven’t had this much rain in a few days for 20 odd years in Tas, so all the falls were flowing quite nicely.
It was great to get back in the wilderness, although when we walked into the cabin for the first time to find a woman that had tried to kill herself there was a little shock, but we and some other people in the other huts all helped out in any way they could, we got an ambo(2 showed up) there and she ended up being ok which was a relief. So that was a bit of a drama but the rest of the shoot was great, and so good to get all this rain, it’s amazing how green everything is now.

oh my gosh, what a terrible story Michael, to come across that. I’m glad the woman is okay now, I hope. A beautiful photo nonetheless considering the weather you were faced with. So nice to have the rain come in and bring the waterfalls alive, you’ve showed this true beauty so well again. Instant fave :))

  • Michael Walters replied

Yeah it was pretty nasty, she is a lovely woman and Im glad she is ok now. Glad you like the shot, it is really great with all the rain at the moment, all though it’s stopped for a bit today to allow me to do my washing:) Thanks for the fave too Laurette :)

Crikey, you got up close and personel with this shot, the perspective so low and wide, very nice indeed…Pity about the weather and not getting up to the shelf – well, you are only a short drive away (you lucky bugger!)..Look forward to seeing more from the beautiful Mt. Field forests.

  • Michael Walters replied

lol, yeah i had the tripod as low as it would go, the camera was just above the water, a bit awkward to shoot. I’ll go up there again when i know there will be a few clear days and when there is snow, want some nice refection shots on the Tarn. Thanks mate

Must of got wet taking this one, do you have waders? Me and Don were here a little while back. Terrible about the suicide attempt, strange to try it in such an uplifting and wonderful setting.

  • Michael Walters replied

Yeah had the waders on, they really do help, so was kneeling down in the water here. She said she had been going there for 30 years with her husband and use to guide, also wrote one of the first walking books for the Tasman Peninsula, her husband died 2 years ago, so i think she wanted to go to their special place, but wouldn’t have been good if she succeeded and some kids walked in and not me.

  • Michael Walters replied

This is gorgeous Billy, I love the angle (your so good at these). You’re not wrong about the rains being here, it hasn’t stopped, I think we could do with a rest, but we did need it, and that poor woman you helped, life can be very hard at times. Fantastic photo

  • Michael Walters replied

Thank you so so much for such a lovely compliment Josie:) Yeah a break would be nice, i did manage to get some washing done today though, but back to rain tomorrow i think, and then SW cold!!! It really was a shame that she resorted to that, hope she troops on.
