The First Snow (view largre)
Well been away from RB for a week but will catch up with all the work I’ve missed from you all. I took this shot last night and got frost nip in the process, so my finger tips all felt like they had been smashed with a hammer, can still feel it a bit today, I’ve already been told off for not wearing gloves ;-)
It was really beautiful and worth a little pain. Taken on Mt Wellington Tasmania facing west to distant mountain ranges.

AlexMac
Unfortunatley the photo is not showing up for me here, but I have been watching the weather reports for Tassie and noticed its snowing already, hoping the snow stays around till august..will pop back later to see if the pic shows up then…hope your well xx
Michael Walters replied
Yeah i don’t know what is happening and why the pic isn’t showing along with others. Yep the snow will still be here in Aug:) doing good and hope you are too x
Mel Brackstone
I’m seeing a huge expanse of white….must be lots of snow!!! Seriously though, I can’t see the image, nor can I see lots of other images at the moment….guess I’ll have to wait till redbubble fixes the problem…..meanwhile, I’ll just commiserate on the cold fingertips!
Michael Walters replied
haha, yeah me too, not sure what the deal is, i’ll repost if it doesn’t get sorted by RB, thanks for your thoughts on the fingers too:) my mate got it too so at least it was kind of funny.
lizalady
Good to hear your back, but I guess I’ll wait with the others to see whats behind the white curtain.
Michael Walters replied
Thanks for that:) yeah it’s pretty annoying, been a while since i’ve posted and get a shot im happy with and it’s a no show!! oh well might delete it and post later if it doesn’t fix it’s self.
Tatiana R
Hi Michael, I couldn’t see it at first, but now I can! Wow! Magnificent! With all that snow! Wonderful job! I don’t think I can stand taking photos when I need to have my gloves on :-)
Michael Walters replied
Hi Tatiana, yeah i couldn’t see it either for a bit, all good now it seems, yeah i know what yo mean, i think some thin gloves would have been good, would be a bit hard trying to work a camera with big mittens or something ;)
Ralph Olsson
My God Michael, this is just spectacular. LOL about the old nose-pickers…gloves? Fiddly bloody things:)
Michael Walters replied
haha, yeah I know, i’ve been in the snow many times without gloves but for some reason yesterday it really hurt…odd :)
John Kowalski
Sensational image Michael, wonderful lighting, smashing capture
Michael Walters replied
Thank you so much for that John, it was the most beautiful night!
Linda Bianic
Brilliant Michael,,,,,,,bloody brilliant!!!!!!,,,, as for the gloves,,, we wear them 6 months a year here!!!! hope your fingers are thawed…...
How much snow do you get there???
Michael Walters replied
Hey Linda, thank you so so much, 6 months of gloves is a lot:) we don’t get snow at sea level here, but in the mountains if could stretch from now to early November, but it can come and go during that time.
David Hibberd
Another fantastic image definately a fav, well done Micheal
Michael Walters replied
Thanks so much David, and thanks for the fave
Elana Bailey
Hi Michael, it was certainly worth the frost bite (but you should have worn gloves….really..lol). What a spectacular view. Can’t believe it is snowing in Tassie already. An instant fave. Well done. Cheers Elana. P.S. I didn’t know that you were half Russian/Polish and half British. My husband is British (and I lived in the UK for 9 years) and my grandfather was Russian. (That’s my trivia for the day..lol).
Michael Walters replied
Hey there Elana, oh yes im wishing i did have some gloves, ouchies big time:) Yeah nice bit of snow, but it’s pretty much gone as i look at the mountain now, sun has been out so it’s all melted away, but will be back soon. COOL about your family too, my grandfather was Russian too, Im first generation Aussie, so i never know what to call myself:) moving to Poland in a few months too. the mother country:)
Elana Bailey

Elana Bailey
Wow. How exciting. Have you been to Poland before? Good luck with that and I hope that you will stay on redbubble, too? Cheers Elana.
Michael Walters replied
Thanks Elana, no yet to go there, when i lived in England I was meant to go but just didn’t get round to it. I’ll still be on RB for sure:)

lizalady
Oh WOW. The curtain has lifted and the room lite up with the fabulous color of the sun and clouds. Love the snow. (glad it’s not here) This is as good as the movies. Fantastic capture. Just don’t injure that shutter finger.
Michael Walters replied
arh so glad what you see on the other side of the curtain:)
Yeah I love the snow up there on the mountain and not down here where i live, good relationship understanding i think. The shutter finger is a little sorry for itself but all is ok:) Thanks so much Liza

Josie Jackson
Beautiful capture Billy, definitely worth the cold fingers, I’m like you, hate wearing gloves or hats, they always seem to get in the way, had snow at my house the other day, and Cradle had quite a bit of snow on her as well as the surrounding mountains, looks gorgeous.
Michael Walters replied
Thanks so much Josie, yeah they can be too annoying, im thinking of maybe golf gloves could do the trick. mmm I’d love to see Cradle now, must have been great having it at your place too.
Dan Biggins
Absolutely superb shot-your suffering was definitely worth it!! A fave.
Michael Walters replied
Thank you so much for that Dan, really appreciate your comment and the fave.
Mel Brackstone
Whoa!! No wonder you stayed out to catch this!!!
Mel Brackstone
When I went to NZ with the photography tour, our guides suggested flip top mittens….they worked a treat….you can use your fingers for the tough stuff, and then drop the covers back over your fingers while the shot was being made, or you’re waiting for the light etc…
Michael Walters replied
lol, yeah i was really enjoying it there, hmm I like the glove idea, might have to look out for those, I was thinking leather golf gloves would be good when shooting, and just put some thicker ones over the top when not…mmm
cathrinedp
This is spectacular my friend. You are a magician with water in all its forms. Wow
Michael Walters replied
Why thank you oh so much Cathrine, i like your thinking with the water:))
Really glad you like this and thanks for the fave too:)
Mel Brackstone
I bought my mittens from the local camping and disposal store, thinsulate brand…awesomely warm, and very light….not expensive either….they have velcro so you can tape the tops back when you’re not using them…..
Michael Walters replied
Yeah right, I’ll have to go check them out, they do sound really good, thanks for the tip Mel, always appreciate any help in the comfort factor:)
Gavin J Hawley
Superb mate.Wonderful shot.
You have had a bit of a cold autumn havent you. lovely to see the snow though isnt it.
and next time wear some bloody gloves…..lol
Michael Walters replied
Thanks so much for that Gavin, We’ve actually had a really lovely Autumn, the cold kicked in only a few days ago, but before that it was so nice for a couple of months. The snow is really great though, it’s pretty much gone as of today though, sunny day melted it all. and yep….gloves will be with me next time :)
David Firth

Michael Walters replied
Thanks so much David, oh it was a cracking sunset :)
Kathy Reid
Fantastic image, awesome sky. Wow… snow already, don’t forget your gloves next time!!!
Michael Walters replied
Thanks Kathy, yeah it was really awesome that sunset, kind of looked other worldly, looking off to the distant mountains where the sun was going down, :) and i won’t be forgetting the gloves, thats for sure:)

Michael Walters replied
Thanks John, lol, yep it can snow up there till Jan, it’s pretty rare but does happen, it can be 40 degrees one day and 13 the next, as happened once this summer…mad! but i love it.
JennyMac
Wow… love your photo! I also went to Mt Wellington years ago in January and while it didn’t snow… everyone was expecting it … it was bloody cold!!! Gloves are a bugger when you are intent on taking pics… but I guess frost bite isn’t very cool (pardon the pun) either! Rest assured though… glad you fought the elements and got this shot : ) It’s a winner!
Michael Walters replied
Hi Jenny, thank you so much for liking the shot, it is pretty crazy how cold it gets up there at anytime of the year, some good gloves would be very cool ;)

Thank you so so much my dear, really happy you like this cold snow here, and nice and warm there in spring:)) good good:)
Stuart Chapman
That’s just beautiful Michael – The red sky is such a contrast from what you’d expect of a snowy landscape and the two combine interguingly well.
Michael Walters replied
Thanks so much Stuart, yeah i’ve been up there and got a goodish sunset once and a good sunrise once but this is the best i’ve seen, was kind of weird feeling. Also was up there one night and saw the most amazing Southern lights come out for about 2 hours, the best thing i’ve ever seen.
Curtiss Simpson
Stunning shot Michael love the warm tones and view and you proved that photographers do what ever it takes to get a great shot even if means a little pain and suffering LOL ! I sure hope your fingers recover so we can be treated to some more great shots !
Michael Walters replied

Martyn Baker
Jesus Michael, what a great shot, well done
Michael Walters replied
much appreciated mate, glad you like it.
AngieBel
This image shows yet another reason why you ROCK….my almost pathological hatred of being cold would normally mean that I would never lay my eyes on beauty like this, but here I sit, by my nice warm fire, taking it all in! This is pure magic.
AND as cold as you were, I think Poland will bring you cold on a whole other level. Suck it up!!! (and wear gloves!!!) :)))
Stunning photography dear friend.
Michael Walters replied
Thank you so much dear Angie, yes I know that this is more of a look at from a very long distance kind of shot, but maybe you would have liked it for just a couple of minutes. Yep I know i need to such it up as much colder days await..BRING IT OOON!

Laurette Ruys
hmmmmm, okAY!!!! who do you ask to get these sorts of sunsets to pop up along with the fresh snow, just like that?? WOW, this is so so beautiful. It’s such an unfamiliar scene, one would normally associate such a vibrant, rich red sunset with beaches or coastline, yet here you have combined it so freaking amazingly with snowfall. such a contrast in colour really works so well here Michael. You have outstanding talent and the frost nip you got in the process, well it’s worth it every single bit! (I can say that because its’ not my fingers and toes :8). another huge fave, this one bigger than the last !!!
Michael Walters replied
lol, it’s just the perfect place for a mountain and sunset/rise, i really loved being there and looking to these distant mountain with all this golden glow and mist on them was so surreal, like some magic land it felt like. It really was worth the cold being there, and im pretty happy with this shot i got to say:) So happy you like it so much too, means as lot:)many thanks for the huge fave too:)))
