Tips and advice welcome!!

I absolutely love other people’s digital paintings that I’ve seen around the web, and more than anything I wish I could do it! So I’m trying, but wow. It’s not so easy. If any of you can give me any advice or tips, I would LOVE that. I don’t have a drawing tablet, so I can’t use pressure sensitivity and this was all done with a mouse…

Digitally painted in Photoshop CS5.

In between cooking, shopping, doing laundry, washing dishes, changing nappies and schooling my children I sometimes find a spare moment to doodle, draw or photograph something or someone. Those are the moments that keep me going, even if they are few and far between. Food for the artist mom’s soul.

_Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful…Mila looks like an angel or a face by Da Vinci. I wish I could help you with your question, micklyn. I like to take old black & white photos and colorize them with a mouse adding color, working from darks to lights.

  • Thanks, Seth, I think working from darks to lights is probably good advice right there. I didn’t really consider that when I was working on this! : )

……your little model is such a sweetie pie♥

  • She is most certainly a sweetie pie : ) very patient!! But the eyes… now that I look at them they seem just too too bright… I think I might go and desaturate them a bit…. : ) xxx

you’ve done fabulous Micklyn! I can’t get on with a mouse anymore, I use the touchpad on my laptop to edit photos (I guess it’s a bit like finger painting! hahaha)
I sometimes use smooth textures to help with making an image look more ‘painterly’ if that’s any help, but otherwise I think you’re doing just fine on your own. The fun is all in the learning xx

  • thanks so much, Lissy! I’ll try that! I agree, I’m certainly having fun learning. : )

micklyn, you’ve done a great job…especially with a mouse! You will need a graphics tablet and stylus at some point…it will save your hands and wrists from aching. The way you’ve ‘painted’ her hair is lovely. You’ve brought your own special touch to digital painting.

  • Hey Helen, I’m sorry for my incredibly late reply. You’re so kind to comment here, and I really appreciate it! and your advice regarding a tablet… I guess I will just have to jump in and do it one of these days. So much to learn!! Thanks again! x
