please read my description if you have time!!

My amazingly generous husband came home with an iPad for me last week. Out of the blue and COMPLETELY unexpected, like all the best surprises are. He’s been listening to me talking about the wonderful work I’ve seen here on redbubble done by other artists with iPads (particularly Karin Taylor) and decided to spoil me. (Imagine, a husband who listens!)

So I got artrage and rushed in, expecting to be able to do marvelous things with absolutely no experience and very little time, to boot. Well, wow. What a lot I have to learn! This digital painting of apples took me ages, and I could have carried on for days yet, but for the fact that I just decided to stop because I don’t think I’m ever going to get it just how I want it, anyway. I have uploaded it because I want (need!) feedback and advice, and, if you have any lying around, encouragement that one day I’ll be able to create masterpieces…. lol.

PS My son thinks it is highly appropriate that the first things I paint on my Apple iPad are apples… : )

In between cooking, shopping, doing laundry, washing dishes, changing nappies and schooling my children I sometimes find a spare moment to doodle, draw or photograph something or someone. Those are the moments that keep me going, even if they are few and far between. Food for the artist mom’s soul.

I love it! I thought at first you were now painting. I imagine it might have been just about as easy to actually paint it in oil. I am sure artrage must be difficult to learn and one of the reasons I still just pick up a brush. :) Great work! What a wonderful husband you have! :)

  • Thanks so much, Angie. I would love to just pick up a brush, I have painted in oils in the past (and even have posted some of my work here on RB) but turps, oils and toddlers are not a good mix… iPads are just so much… cleaner! So, until my little ones are all grown and I have space and time to indulge my love of turpentine, oil paint, canvas and brushes, I guess I’m stuck with fancy apps that make me feel like I’m doing something artistic. : ) Thanks again!

Wowee, you are blitzing this already Micklyn, I can’t think of any advice, gosh I haven’t mastered ArtRage at all, I have only really used it for very simple things like background textures, I think we just experiment and find out what we warm to most, I love Procreate the best of all, but also I think you would like cpencils very very much, because of the lovely blending tool! This is fantastic, congratulations and I am so happy for you!! xx

  • Thanks, Karin, I tried to find cpencils but iTunes didn’t come up with much, not sure what I’m doing wrong… I’d love to try Procreate, but thought I should try to master one thing at a time. Using ArtRage for bg textures is a BRILLIANT idea.. why didn’t I think of that? will definitely try it. : ) Thanks again for all your help and advice. xx
