This is Pip, a young speckled pigeon that has made his home with us. One night, as we sat eating at the table, it flew down on to our porch and refused to leave. It was obviously very young, and very tame – I can only assume somebody hand-reared it and then tried to release it. Unfortunately, pigeons have a homing instinct, and this one has picked our home, and is sticking with it. Luckily we have a nice big aviary where he can roost every night, as he is as little afraid of our cats and dogs as he is of us. Most days we let him out to fly around the garden and play with the children, but he always, always comes home.
