Close to her heart
For some reason my little two year old girly girl, Mila, is passionate about snails… could be the influence of her older wiser brother, Hudson, I suppose. Anyway, after every rainstorm she goes out and ransacks the garden for snails, carrying them around in bunches, or filling plastic containers with hundreds of the slimy little buggers, leaving them oozing snail slime and overflowing behind bedroom doors or under the table, for me to step on later…

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh…..Okay this is soooooooooo CUTE….
but i remember once ( and I was more like 5 ) .....i saw all these little what I thought were Shells…..and my parents were getting ready to leave….so I started to collect as many as I could…and put them in my coat Pocket…..then we got in the car and i was sitting in the back
and couldn’t wait for my dad to start driving…cuz then, i knew i could start to look at my little treasure….so i took few out…..and within a minute ….they started to come out…......I SCREAMEDDDDDDDDDD so loud…..where we almost got into an accident :))))))
my dad had to pull over and remove my coat and get rid of all those snails :))))))))
I stayed away from them ever since :))) LOL
excellent IMAGE hun :)
micklyn replied
ROTFLMAO!! That is a GREAT story, Jacqleen, thank you!! and extra thanks for the favouriting, hun! xx

haha, it used to be lizards at my house, inwould find them dried up behind the couch or worse yet, have one jump on me when i was watching tv LOL
love this, its precious!
micklyn replied
LOL, yes, lizards, too, although it’s mostly the cats that are into lizards…. and leave them dead behind the couch until the smell drives you nuts and you have to hunt them down… ( : Thanks, rubyjo!

I adore your framing of this and I just adore this image in general Micklyn! LOVE your story too….totally made me smile. I love bugs, but I can’t do slithery and slimey…your daughter is very brave as are you having to clean them up afterwards!
I was once planting flowers in the garden and I grabbed on of the pots to transplant. My fingers wrapped around something spongy and slimey….I paused for a moment knowing full well it was a great big banana slug. I instantly fired the pot out of my hand hitting the wall of the garage…were my husband was standing….just missing his head and did the craziest jumping up and down….ewwwwww…...ickkkkkkk…...grosssssss dance for about 5 minutes! Hope the neighbors weren’t watching lol :)
micklyn replied
Lol!!! sounds like an excellent performance, and just what I would have done in your shoes! I still remember a real close up spider shot you won with once on inspi.re… you said there were lots of them around where you live and that the tough looking spider guy you shot lived on your porch?? I remember marvelling at your courage….. ( ; Thanks, Shelly!
Ingz
so touching and beautifully taken dear Micklyn! i love your story and what everyone has written, you certainly have brought back such lovely memories. My daughter would collect them too…. line them all up and wait for the race to begin…. she would sit patiently waiting for the winner to cross her little straw line on the grass xxxxx
micklyn replied
what a great idea, Ingz!! I must tell Hudson and Mila to try that (( : Thanks so much for your kind comment!!! xxx

Superb edit, ‘gutsy’ composition (most photographers wouldnt have the nerve to crop the face of a cute kid) – but you are a PHOTOGRAPHER not a snapshot kinda person – kudos, love her fingers curled around the shell. Bold and cool.
Your shot tells a story with real intelligence in your framing.
micklyn replied
wow, that is really a great comment, gottheshot. Thank you so much.

A comment above is so, so, so what I thought!!
Most people wouldn’t have cropped he cute face out – but you’ve done that and made it work so well!! I think it works as by cropping her eyes off – you leave focus to the gentle way in which her hands are cradling the snails!
Awesome work Micklyn – so much to learn by looking at your work!!
micklyn replied
Thanks, Vikram!! that is really a wonderfully encouraging comment! ( :

Micklyn, I don’t know how to express with words what I feel when I see your photos, I will try: they evoque in me so many feelings that i can feel again the ingenuity and freshness of bein a child. Your pictures have the incredible capacity of transporting me to my childhood, very strongly. The colors, the intimate composition, the moments, the details…
Thank you for this.
