This is so sweet. It would work in color, mono and like this, though I personally am not convinced of the need for selective color here. Very nicely composed anyway.

Selective colour is always to highlight one subject above another of course.
This is done perfectly here. If the shot were ‘straight colour’ the viewer is confronted with two equal subjects. I find that the selective colour makes that part of the photo more 3D. I like their similar expressions. I like the way the kids fingers catch the light and the way the dogs left ear is clearly defined. FAB.
