I absolutely love this shot. I shoot primarily landscapes and nature but this makes me want to experiment!
micklyn replied

Emilie Sykes
How did you do this? Beautiful! I love it! :)
micklyn replied
I put the flower in a black bowl with the clear cd case on top and put water on it with a syringe then used my macro lens set with a high aperture and a remote release and a tripod… I focused on the images in the drops. Thanks!

Beautiful – and intriguing – - the bowl and the CD cover ?? :-)))
micklyn replied
Thank you! I put the flower in a black bowl with the clear cd case on top and put water on it with a syringe then used my macro lens set with a high aperture and a remote release and a tripod… I focused on the images in the drops. (this was all in a recent version of a uk digital photography mag – I just followed their instructions! they used sweets.)

Awesome!!
A CD case!! I’ve been wanting to try this and keep saying that I should go and buy a sheet of glass! Did you oil over the case before applying the drops or did the drops just form in that shape?
micklyn replied
Thanks! no, they just formed that shape… the cd case was a little scratched, though, so I selected the drops with the circle selection tool in photoshop (whatever it’s called) and then inverted my selection and used the decrease noise filter – dust and scratches. It worked perfectly to get rid of the distracting scratches ( :

A wonderful subject for this technique and lovely rich colours. I like the inventiveness of using what comes to hand – a CD case instead of a sheet of glass.
micklyn replied
Ok, I have to admit – I got the idea to use a cd case out of a photography mag – whoever wrote the article was the inventive one! Thanks for your comment! ( :
