Hi, my name is Michele Marie and I am an artist. This statement makes me smile because I asked an artist friend of mine many years ago, “When in this creative process can one call themselves and artist”? He replied “You are an artist when you say you are”. I was like huh, what a concept. No one to declare it done, no one to give me a completion or arrival certificate. I don’t remember not creating. I have spent my whole life with a crayon, pencil, or something with which to makes marks, adhere or otherwise assemble things. When I say things I truly mean things or interchangeably. “stuff“. Anything is a canvas for me. My life is a canvas. I live my life as artfully as the art and “stuff” I create. I live with my work as well. I knew from kindergarten that I would be an artist one day. I am largely self taught, although I did attend a two year graphic art program which included graphics art (duh!), illustration, and photography. All that I learned then I still use, and so much more. I am a sponge, I love to read and learn about all types of art. Even if I can’t or don’t do it, I so admire it. I love the creative spirit. I love the diversity of artists and the innate need to create that they all seem to have. My inspiration is never ending. I run out of time far before I ever run out of ideas. I have idea books full of things I want to create. Inspiration comes from many places for me, music, ancient architecture, poetry, books, movies, actually the list is endless. Some of my favorite artists are Leonardo Da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Gustov Klimt, Alphonse Mucha and many more both living and dead. I love architecture, mysticism, pagan and religious symbolism. My art is an expression of my imagination that lies somewhere between fantasy and reality, a little edgy, with a healthy dose of the dark side of the psyche. I feel art, like life of an artist, grows, changes and evolves. At least mine does. Although I do use a palette of mixed media, my love affair with pen and ink and watercolor is passionate.
