Please read the poem first and then finish reading the rest of this description….no cheating :)

Ok, a few days ago I ran across the written and visual works of skinnyman. In his portfolio I came across this. I have a thing for clay tiles and when I first joined rb I originally had a photo of a clay tile roof which I loved but not many others seemed to appreciate. As I said to Peter, I removed it due to lack of appreciation of the clay tile! So when I came across Peter’s photo of a clay tile roof I was thrilled! We got to talking about tile’s and how cool they where etc. Then today sort of as a joke, we decided to challenge each other to write a poem about them. I know…...all very strange but true! We gave each other an hour to write….and this is what I came up with :D In 24 hours we are going to see who gets the most views, favourites, etc. Man the people that I meet here and the things that I do! All in good fun ;)

Please read Peter’s poem as well.

Created from heat
Shaped from fire
I watch it take form
From love and desire
I gaze at flames tongue licking
As life’s clock keeps ticking
Hands working skillfully
Moulding to it willfully
The colour, the smell
My passion must quell
So badly I want to touch
Feel hard form in my clutch
But I know it shall never be
I must only watch, look and see
Still I can’t help but smile
As I watch the creation of the clay tile :)

Good Poem Shelly! It took only an hour? darn, that’s fast! Maybe you should upload your tile shot again!

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Hey you! Thanks for the sympathy vote hahaha! Just having some fun and I’m not expecting much feedback on this one but glad to hear from you Nat :) I have a few shots of this tile roof in Nicaragua, because as I have said….I like tile :D

You should not remove work because of lack of comment !!! I had one with 2 comments on RB.!!
that sold as a matted print.. !! great poem.. x

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

I’m a bit of a pout that way :( But you do have a good point :) Congrats on your sale by the way! What photo was it that you sold? Thanks for looking and commenting :)

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Hahahaha! You are always sticking your foot in your mouth….but it makes me laugh :D Thanks David :)

  • Nathalie Chaput

LOL – You took yours down because of lack of response and I never put mine up because I didn’t think anyone would be interested! So here, exclusively for your personal and private dirty pleasure and ceramic indulgence, I present to you, raw and unadulterated…

I really like this, but for voting purposes – am more of a feline than tile devotee sorry Shelley. But it is a great little competition – congrats to you both for setting one hour deadlines too (not always a fan of deadlines for myself where creativity is concerned, but admire it!) Cheers, Deb xoxo

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Well Deb….I don’t think after reading both there is any question which is the better of the two! But I really appreciate you casting your eyes this way as well….very kind of you and thank you so much :)

  • Yvette Bielert

Wow Shelly, I didn’t know you had this talent as well as your photography! I love this, & in an hour!!! Very impressive! I hope you won’t stop taking pictures, but you should definitely pursue this as well.

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Well….the jury is still out on the talent bit but this was pretty fun. ME trying to come up with something about fricken’ tiles in an hour and up against the great talent of Peter….what WAS I thinking lol! Anyway, so glad you like this and thank you for the fave Yvette…...woohoooooo!

Nice shots, they are interresting. Now, about the poem, uuuuu this is a toughy for both of your poems are visual, (very visual), led to sexy description and finalized into a twist, but yours was much more than his. You were actually teasing and that made me smile. So, what can I say? Great one. Job well done. And keep up with the challenges. Makes the viewers interested. lol

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Hey Iris! Thanks so much for reading both and for such a detailed comment! This was a pretty fun challenge but I don’t think I will be challenging anyone anytime soon again haha! Too stressful! Thanks hun :)

Lovely piece of prose Shelly. You can even make pottery sound sensual!...Have you been watching ‘Ghost’ again?
(and you were multi-tasking at the same time, I’m very impressed).
Your fave film isn’t…’Fiddler on the Roof’ by any chance? :)

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Haha! Loaded comment here Kerry! I had to try to win this challenge so I thought I would go with this little twist :D Ghost is one of my fave movies! And yeah, multi tasking….yay me! And believe it or not…..I have never seen “Fiddler on the Roof….but I love roofs….and fiddlers…..so maybe I should check it out! None of this makes any sense….shutting up now! Cheers Kerry :)

Comments are always good, but who do you write for in the first analysis? I write for myself and if other people enjoy it that’s great, but if not, c’est la vie, n’est ce pas? I like this Shelly. You are a tease but you always please!

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

There you are again with your very wise words Mr. Dalby :) Great point….what would I do without you ‘eh?! Thanks for being such a wonderful support to my writing, as well as my photography….you’re good people my friend :)

skillfully clever and amusing … and a guessing game until you get to the end (these lines raised questions – “Hands working skillfully …. “) ... gets my vote :)

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Hehehe :D It worked then if it had you guessing Alan and glad you found it clever and amusing as well! Thank you very, very much :)

well the metaphor for clay can be mused upon as the being another soul…. Indeed a clever write me thinks… So to smile at the creation of another soul or is it just a clay tile to keep the rain from leaking in…? Hmm the ambiguity is delicious.. :))

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Wow…......your comment is so beautiful! Now YOU really have a way with words me lady :) I humbly thank you for your time :)

  • hsien-ku

    hsien-ku

oh! please don’t remove your work if people don’t comment! popularity is never an indication of quality – and sometimes it takes time for the right comments to arrive… lovely piece of writing – a witty metaphor!

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Again, wise words from a very wise lady! I am very honoured that you took the time to read and comment on this and then a FAVE from you…...wow…....that is very cool! Thanks so much hsien-ku :)

Love this Shelly and the idea of the challenge….. I have a few pieces I’ve either not put on or considered taking off re concerns over interest….. but you see sometimes you just don’t know who out their likes your chosen subject and I have been surprised by some of my work that has been favourited….

  • Shelly Hiebert replied

Hey Helen…..maybe you and I should run a challenge or something….what do you say?! But I will just help run it, because I think I have learned my lesson from challenging experienced writers lol. Thanks for your kind words Helen. You are always so good to me :)
