Got down to the beach late, sun was already setting. But the sky was still glowing pink. I took 3 shots then thought I’d better get some wood and light a fire.
About 11pm there was a flash of light that got brighter and brighter and the whole landscape lit up. It was like some one had a giant flash. I looked over my shoulder to see the flash fall behind the cliff on the left. The flash would of been only 2-3 seconds.
I was hoping it was a meteor and not a nuclear bomb (ha who would waste a nuke on NZ). Did n’t find out it was a meteor until the next day.
I’ve never seen a meteor light up the sky like that, an amazing experience. Pays to be sitting on a beach looking at the night sky, never know what you’ll see.If you want some proof here is the news link
