This beautiful orchid was growing in my sister’s garden.

We thought it looked pretty amazing, but after viewing the fine details through the eye of the macro lens we were even more impressed.

I’m still researching to find the name of this little gem. I was thinking it was a native Australian orchid but the research suggests otherwise.

Thanks to my sister for showing me this flower & also for the black tray used as a background.

Now identified as Bletilla striata , the China pink ground orchid thanks to Greg.

Photographed with a Canon 400D in Sydney, Australia.

    What a stunner Michael !
I have just spent some time browsing a couple of sites without success ….

  • Thanks for the appreciation & fave Trish. It looks like it’s not a common variety. My sister has promised to get me one when she visits our sister up north later this month. Thanks for doing some research.

    Hi Michael

It’s Bletilla striata , the China pink ground orchid – which does come from China.

So, not a native I’m afraid.

    Cheers, Greg

  • Thanks for the identification Greg. I thought it looked like a native orchid I’d seen but wondered why I couldn’t find it on the native orchid sites.
Looking at it now, I can understand.
