Rainbow Falls in the Macquarie Pass National Park by

This is the waterfall at the end of Clover Hill Road in the Macquarie Pass National Park which is in the Illawarra region of NSW, Australia.

It isn’t my best waterfall image but after a fairly long walk with a sore back, slipping & sliding down a muddy, steep hill, clinging to vines & branches as we navigated along the bank & over slippery rocks in the stream, getting socks & boots soaking wet as we stepped from rock to (too far away) next rock & fighting off leeches, I just had to upload something from the epic adventure !

Actually my mate attracted 2 leeches while I managed to escape unscathed … for a change.

We also had the thrill of hearing a lyrebird do a repertoire of bird calls including imitating a kookaburra, whip bird, currawong & various other sounds. I just saw a bit of it’s amazing tail display before it hurried off into denser scrub.

Shot with a Canon EOS400D, RAW Mode, ISO 400, Exposure .2 seconds, F6.3.

Feature
Illawarra, Sept 2010.

Country born & bred but now located in Sydney, Australia.

I’m fascinated by the beauty of nature & in particular Australian native flowers & landscapes. I also love colour & anything unusual.
The Blue Mountains are my favourite spot at the moment.

    Lovely capture Michael!
Glad you missed out on the leeches … nice to have a friend to attract them away :)

  • Thank you Trish. We also heard some amazing lyrebird calls. It’s the first time I’ve heard one imitate a kookaburra during its repertoir. Just saw a little bit of it’s tail display before it ran off. Will add that bit to the commentary later.
