La Perouse convict history

Michael Matthews

Sydney, Australia

Artist's Description

Photographed with a Canon 400D.
This is part of the wall of the cannon military structures that were built on Botany Bay to guard against invasions from the sea.
It is just across from Bare Island. In 1885 concerned British colonists thought an invasion from Russians was imminent. Bare Island Fort was built to protect “Sydney’s back door”- Botany Bay – thus settling the minds of the early settlers.
This is La Perouse in the southern area of Sydney, Australia.
