Photographed with a Canon 400D in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia.
I was tempted to call this one Waratah in the RAW because it was my first outing with the camera in RAW mode. It sounded a bit raunchy though.
This image was captured on a walk to Hanging Rock in October last year. I’ve never seen so many waratahs in one place.
The ants obviously love them.
Waratahs herald the beginning of spring in the mountains.
Hanging Rock is near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains of Australia (2 hours west of Sydney).
That’s the Hanging at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park that features in many other images in the gallery.
Photographed with a Canon 400D, F6.3, ISO 400, Exposure 1/30 seconds, Shade White Balance.

I’m fascinated by the beauty of nature & in particular Australian native flowers & landscapes. I also love colour & anything unusual.
The Blue Mountains are my favourite spot at the moment.

First Comment :) Awesome shot Michael, the color is so Vibrant and those little ants running around this Waratah adds to a brilliant attraction to the eye, great stuff mate :) Oh and go Queensland lol :))
Thanks Shannon. I never figured out how a bunch of butch rugby players got to play under the banner of a flower ! .. I reckon they’d play better with a name like “The Crushers”. I’m more into League myself .. but not a great fan.

Beautiful capture Michael. This is such a beautiful shade of red. The ones I have are more on the maroon or pink side.
The little ants are having a ball!!!!!!
Thanks Sharon. I uploaded this one before but it didn’t get a lot of attention. Not good timing perhaps. Also have cropped it from the original & I think the second incarnation is more interesting.

LOL Michael, I have to totally agree :) Yeah huge League fan here, got a lot of Family that have done really well at the Game, Couple you may have heard of is Matt and Steve Rogers, My uncle and Cousin, Legends in the game :) I am a Cowboy’s and Titans fan, moving back to the Gold Coat in about 2 Months, looking forward to getting back in the Sunshine state :)
Cool .. nice genes. That idea came to my mind when I looked at your surname. A guy I worked with years back reckoned I looked like Steve Rogers .. half his weight though !

Thanks a lot Ray. It’s the standard 18-55mm lens that came with the Canon 400D.
