Hanging Rock vista by Michael Matthews

That’s Hanging Rock in the Blue Mountains National Park in New South Wales, Australia.
This National Park is 1 to 2 hours west of Sydney, Australia.

Hanging Rock is on the left & on the right is the cliff face of Baltzer’s Lookout.
It’s about an hours walk on the wide track to this spot unless you take a mountain bike.

Yesterday I waited, not so patiently, while some wispy clouds managed to cover the sun a little so I could get this shot.
I was very popular with the flies while I waited. Too bad I forgot the Aerogard .

Well done! Well worth waiting for in spite of the flies!

  • Thanks Trish & thanks for the favouriting. I think it’s helping to overcome my fear of heights (or is that a fear of falling off cliffs) but I still have to work on the burning lungs when I climb back up the cliff.

Glorious capture Michael. Is this THE Hanging Rock??
Hope you didn’t picnic there …Lol
Beautiful colours here … a stunning vista ….

  • Thanks very much Sharon. That other Hanging Rock is in Victoria. This one doesn’t have enough shade for picnickers.

Great image Michael, I`ve seen a lot of photos of this but I think you have photographed it from a new angle. I like this composition. Is it far to walk to this spot?
  • Thanks Terry. This is the first time I managed to get this angle without dark shadows. It’s an hour’s walk (3.5 kms) from the car park at the end of Ridgewell road. It’s a fire trail so a lot of people go there on pushbikes.
