  • michaelfromoz replied

Thank you. Interesting about colours. These came about through a small adjustment of the white balance.

Very nice Mike. What time of year was this taken. Went there recently and the water line was way down low. Great tones to this. John

  • michaelfromoz replied

    Thank you John.
I took this just a couple of days ago. Whilst Cameras don’t have the light range that the human eye does, through timed exposure, they can often see things that we can’t. It was quite dark at the time I took this shot and whilst the pre-dawn light was just starting far right, the main light was from a huge spotlight that is used to light up the boat ramp at night. The glow on the pillars of the boat ramp is actually from that lamp. Normally sunrise shots here would be taken from the other side of the jetty to prevent shadowing and I do have a number that came out quite well from that side. But this was something that just worked out fine I think. The Auto White Balance was not really working in the darkness so this colour came from a small adjustment during processing and I just thought that the result looked good, so I kept it.

So many wonderful comments about this image. I would just be repeating myself many times over in individual answers so I leave this single comment. I am surprised and honoured that it has been chosen as the Masterpiece Avatar and I thank you all for your kind words. I apologise for the delay but I have been South again on one of my usual photo treks. I hope I can maintain the level I seem to have set myself.
    Cheers

I am late in responding and for that I apologise but I have spent that last 6 weeks and 8,436 Kms on a photographic journey up through the Gascoyne, Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia, out of touch with the world of Internet, mobile phone and television etc.
I have returned to the civilisation of Busselton with a car, caravan and throat covered, both within and without, in red dust and a full 500Mb drive of photographs that I now have to process and wade through ready to upload the few good ones on to my website.
    Cheers
