Tie A Yellow Ribbon
I was wrapping a gift and pulled a page out of an old calendar and used YELLOW ribbon to tighten the packaging. I thought it had a nice ARTSY feel, so I decided to share the concept here as I thought it would make an ideal ‘greeting card’ or ‘print’ too.
A yellow ribbon is a symbol with various meanings, mostly associated with those waiting for the return of a loved one or of military troops who are temporarily unable to come home.

”... a dog in the lap…” (isn’t there a saying like this?)
He’s done his time? Who tied the ribbon?
Who knows, who cares? It’s a peaceful image.

Great photo and enhancement, Michael!
It’s funny, this image brought to mind the day I came home from serving in Viet Nam for one year. I was totally unaware of the “shame and hatrid” that some American citizens felt against the government and the soldiers who served there.
A woman on the plane taking me home, looked at me (in my dress uniform) and asked my destination. I proudly told her that I was coming home from a year’s stint in Viet Nam. She said nothing…then spit in my face.
So I didn’t get the big parades or yellow ribbons…I simply had to hide the fact that I had ever been in Viet Nam, for fear of the hatred being expressed toward me..for something of which I had no control (of course, I could’ve skipped off to Canada, like so many young men were doing.. but that was not me).

If only war was this idyllic … those waiting to return do know its reality … and the yellow ribbon certainly says acknowledges their and their loved one’s dilemma.
