The Age Card
I have plenty of photos of this adorable woman. I actually liked this after she put her hands over her face…adds an aura of mystery. And she does use “The Age Card” to her advantage when she chooses to—hence, the caption title. LOL ;)
I’m placing this photo in the CURRENT ISSUES Group because there are so many baby boomer people with elderly parents…and as time goes by…it truly is an issue to be dealt with.
The Age Card belongs to the following groups:

Definitely an image to fire the imagination. So much to ponder here. So much character in those hands that one does not need to see her face…. I want to, tho’. I imagine her to be delightful. The TITLE is PERFECT. Good job, Michael!!
You are SO right about the timeliness of this shot. We are dealing with this issue with my mother-in-law. It is heartbreaking to see her independence disappear, and to watch her “life” change to “existence”. I know she is simply biding time, waiting for death to take her—a choice SHE has made, one that leaves us feeling pretty helpless.. The depression she feels is tangible, yet there is little to be done to “help”.

i love this shot Michael. I can imagine this lady to be rather mischevous and she looks she’s playing peek-a-boo. Is there a cheeky smile beneath those hands??

Fantastic shot Michael! Very emotive. The toning gives it a real sense of timelessness as well.

Wonderful photo. It leaves the viewer wondering . . . . is she crying? afraid? embarrassed? or maybe she is laughing behind those beautiful hands. Fantastic.

Michael, its a beautiful image, reminds me of a woman saying the blessing over shabbos candles.

One of the most beautiful things in life are old hands, imo. And most of the times old hands are so soft!
My first impression was (I don’t know the lady ofcourse): she’s so vulnarable and sad/helpless about something that she hides her face to cover her emotions. Very strong.
Who knows the story behind this, I don’t. Maybe she suffers from Alzheimer and just had a clear moment, where she realised that she is ill….
Now I’m getting too emotional myself, here ;)
Added to my favs.

great capture Michael, The Age Card is a perfect tittle, and truely a lot of us are dealing with aged parents. My parents are both in the 80s, and its funny how we the children become parents to our own mother and fathers.
Both my parents are sickly and tend to rely on us children for everthing.
Its not easy watching your parents slowly go down in front of your eyes, but such is the cirle of life.
At this stage me and my brothers and sisters are having to make several decisisons about things we hoped would never come.
I encourage ever one that reads this to have a Living Will. DNR, and a Legal Will made at a early age and keep it up to date, dont leave this decision to your loved ones. It causes a lot of problems and hard feelings for thoses you leave behind.

Michael…I love this!! (I already favorited it) This is just so well done!! And Ruben is right – this is truly something many of us either are dealing with, have dealt with or will soon….as hard as it is, talk to your family, and tell them what you want also – don’t just figure it will be you dealing, we never know what tomorrow will bring.

Boy, can I relate to your comments about issues with our parents getting “older”!! This past year was a real wake-up call! This reminds me how we take so many photos of those we love when they are just starting out, but not as much when they get old and wrinkled—WE NEED TO!! Scarlett did a photo of an elderly couples hands, that really got me to thinking, and now, seeing this, I really want to do one of MY parents hands! Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!!
Beth Lambert
This is a really moving and intense photo without the comments…and with the comments it made me smile :) “the age card”
I miss my gram for that as well. beautiful work michael…truly truly…a masterpiece.

GREat capture. Those folks should be excited that their parents are alive. Some of us have not had that luxury;soon, many of those uninitiated will be sorry if they neglected their elderly loved ones!

Nice shot!

Very creative and relevant concept for this baby boomer. The photograph is very moving
and in its simplicity, less is more. I love the sepia tones and the closeup of her wrinkled hands. This is an important issue, especially in this country for those children who do not respect the elderly and put them in nursing homes to live their lives in a hopeless state of desperation. Other cultures revere the elderly and although beauty fades, the wisdom of those that have experienced a lifetime have so much too offer. Dealing with my mother who had a stroke when she was still energetic and full of life was very painful. I will look up your post in current issues. This is a very thoughtful and
important photograph and a critical message to all of us who are confronting many psychological and medical issues that hopefully we will take seriously rather than casting the elderly away for our self-serving convenience.

Thank you so much for the text with this moving photo, Michael. My mother is 96, living alone in another country, and not a day goes by when I don’t worry about her.
