Brush Up Business

Brush Up Business

I was walking in Downtown Tribeca, NY last week when I looked up at this old building. It seems vacant and I had the sneaking suspicion that it would be gutted and totally redone. I imagined this old ad on the building would be gone—and so I shot it immediately. I see it as a historical view of Old New York. I did a bit of selective coloring play to get the message across more clearly. :)

What a great old building. It would be nice if they renovated it rather than knocking it down. Just look at those beautiful windows. The old mural advertisement is so reminiscent of my childhood. This sort of ad was prevalent in cities. Anywhere there was a bare wall, someone would paint a big colorful ad! I like the green and yellow colors you chose for the selective bit.

    Very nice Michael…
I always wonder about old buildings..Don’t have very many in my small town..but in the big city it’s a different story.
    Good work.

This is quite a well done selective coloring. Good composition and an interesting subject. Would be interesting seeing the original color image. It is unfortunate the historical building are knocked down instead of being preserve.

    Wow!
    This is beautiful Michael.
It would be great if they renovated the inside of the building and kept the outside as is.

I’m so glad that most of the historic buildings in my city get perserved rather then destroyed.
Hopefully if they do renovate this building, they will keep the wonderful old art on the walls.

this is great, would be such a shame if they got rid of it. think the building’s more appealing with a bit of free art on it. love the choice of green as well.
