Artist's Description

This colorized electron micrograph was a commissioned giclee originating from the laboratory of Rick Smalley, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for co-discovering “Buckyballs” (although 10 years later they are more commonly known as nanotubes). His wife presented the print to him as a birthday gift in the Spring of 2005, and I’m honored to say he told me he very much admired it. I am very sad to say, however, that Dr. Smalley passed away the following October.
