The Red Spotted Assassin Bug is one of the most aggressive bugs of its size! They grow to be 4-5cm long and they have a bite strong enough to make you incapable of thinking about anything else for a good few hours. They are also capable of spraying their venom, with very good accuracy towards the eyes (even though I was behind the camera it still make you nervous! They are much quicker than I am!).
Cannibalism is very popular in this species. This makes it very important for prey inverts, such as crickets, to be kept in with the bugs when keeping them in captivity. This species of Assassin Bug is capable of taking down a cricket nearly twice its own size and have been known to work together to take down prey even bigger than that!
These are not for a beginner invert keeper and require experience (and nerve!!) to keep as pets! As pets they are also better kept in large groups. This is because they are not the kind of bug you can pick up and hold, they are just to look at!! So keeping them in large groups gives a wider variety of behaviors to observe.
