The Flag of my Father

I have written this as an permanent point of honour to my Father and to all the other millions of people who have made that willing sacrifice to make a better world for the future of all children who will follow

The Flag of my Father belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical

Some young ones look at a flag
Wonder whats all the fuss
As I once did so long ago
This coloured piece of cloth
That flaps in the breeze
They wonder why on some days
Their fathers and Grandfathers cry
Mummy holds on to Daddy’s arm
Grandma squeezes Grandpa’s hand
And others stand alone
With arms across children shoulders
The rows of stone with the names on them
Never understanding the real stories
From where the nightmares began
Only until they start reading the history
Mankind’s inhumanity to man
The need for greed, the hate of another
Some learn and understand the reasons
Others just take freedom for granted
Never thinking of the sacrifice made
Only when you have children of your own
How luck you are to be free
The flag of my father,
That red, white and blue
