the windswept square
empty no longer
overnight the huge sphere rolled into place
and came to rest
as if it belonged there

people sit on the benches and look at it
they go away puzzled

children are fearless
they hug it and stroke it’s slippery surface
they understand scale and irrelevance

since its arrival
nothing has moved except the shadows

I always wanted to be an architect, but instead did several art degrees, taught in schools and universities around the world and retired a few years ago from the University of Melbourne where I was Head of Photography. My photographs are of things that interest me. My real love was medium format, black and white photography, but I have come to love my digital camera and the power of colour.

I guess the fact that it is perfectly round and white in the middle of an ordinary place is what makes it so striking.

  • Thank you for looking at my work Mui-Ling, much appreciated.
