This is an approximate 50% crop of the full image, taken with a Nikkor 500/4 AFS I + 2x Nikkor AFS I Teleconverter on the D2Xs, so an effective focal length of likely somewhere around the neighborhood of 2000mm if the crop is figured in, not too shabby. This really shows the quality of Nikkor Glass in my mind!

Who’s a pretty birdy then? The eye is like a brooch. Its feathers appear as fine as silk threads. My canaries would be envious of the beautiful plumage. What bird is that? Is the picture to scale? Its amazing you could get so close.

i love the bluebirds where i live, they have such pretty colors and they fly in groups of many. I once watches a bunch of them play around in some trees down the road from me which had orange blossoming flower stalks on them. Boy did it look beautiful with the bluebirds on them. :) this is a great focused shot. well done

This is a fabulous picture. I have Blue Birds every year that nest and find it very difficult to shoot a good picture, usually I am too far away…..get too close and they fly away. This little guy is so neat. Good work.
