One of four portraits and sketches of Angel Warda I’ve been working on. This is one of those times I felt that I needed to try different styles.
I’ll probably post at least 2 others to show the differences.

color pencil and gouache paint on bogus rough sketch paper.

Well…..for what it’s worth Michael…..I saw the thumb and I thought…….awesome! someone has been working with Angel! That’s the truth. I just signed in and this was top of my feed and that was my first thought. So from my point of view that’s two thumbs up :)

  • Wow! Great Shelly! Thanks!

the eyes are what really, really grab me…they sparkle and shine just like Angel’s eyes do….but I think I can see where you feel a little let down by the likeness…she’s instantly recognisable but when you’re working on someone’s features and then adapting that to your own style sometimes something can be lost in the process….I don’t think that has happened here though but I do think that maybe something is missing? I know that when you painted me you made me look absolutely gorgeous, you took my natural features and made them even more beautiful…something that made me feel extremely flattered.

I can’t wait to see what else you’ve drown oh talented one hehehehehe….great work mate! But something tells me that the next ones you post of Angel will be even more stunning…hugs

  • Thank you Tahnja!
I don’t know what it is…This is finished, though. I’m happy with the way it came out. The thing I love most about this is that I just started sketching with a white pencil and it grew from there. Most of the strokes were really free with barely any erasing at all.

What kills me is…you look at Angel’s photo and it takes your breath away. This doesn’t do that to me.

She’s a gorgeous gorgeous lady! What a wonderful muse! You’ve NAILED her eyes and lips! I see what you mean about it missing something and I see what Tahnja means about working someone’s natural features in with your own style. I just went back and forth between your drawing and her photo. I think the only area that is slightly off is the shape of the face from the cheeks down – it gets a bit skinny/skeletal. That fits with your style perfectly, but it takes that small bit of perfection away from her natural features that makes the photo so stunning. I can’t wait to see what else you draw of her!

  • Thanks Lynsye! I need to finish the others and post.
