Mert Ozgur was born in 1986 in Istanbul, Turkey. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University, he enrolled in Istanbul Technical University for a Master of Science in the Energy Science and Technologies program. In the meantime, he was granted a Fulbright Scholarship by the US Department of State. This allowed him to continue his career in the USA with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York.
With the particular support of his mother, Mert has had a strong interest in the arts since his childhood. After exhibiting his paintings in a windowless room, and daring to damage the wallpaper in the process, Mert became involved in photography. With his first D-SLR camera, bought in 2007, he created the works for his first personal exhibition. 2010 European Capital of Culture: Istanbul was shown at the Rochester Institute of Technology in May 2010. This institute is considered to have a Masters degree with a photography major that is in the top five of those offered in the US.
