Contemplating the Future (Chac Mool Series #2)

The second in the Chac Mool Series, this Mayan figurine from the Yucatan peninsula in Central America has come to stay in a whole new world up in the northern United States…

Here he is posing thoughtfully as the archetypal Hermit from the tarot… (The Hermit is a lone figure, walking through the darkness carrying the light, which is a great burden but also a great gift. He is quiet, contemplative. While others rush around and shout, he sits quietly alone and thinks. He goes deep within to reach wisdom.)

Here he is in a quiet moment, contemplating the future of mankind…

This is the first time I see this wonderful figure.
I know that you have a reason for relate it to The Hermit, and is good to have written that in the thread. Is that ball being carried by the figure too?
Seems to me more a a keeper of a vision than a hermit, but all the way, the reasons for what I see or project our own internal archetypes is the thing.
From the point of view of the position of the head, he seems rather contemplating the past, than a future.. for he his looking to the left…but anyway seems really out of the rush…and holding the mysterious Essence in his hands.

I think what I like best about his contemplation is that he’s contemplating it with love (there’s a heart on his forehead)..

His actual “use” as a traditional Mayan statuary was to carry offerings to the gods, but as he seemed “contemplative” on that particular day, I thought I would give him something to contemplate, which felt all the better since we are approaching the end of the Mayan calender (and some say the world?) in 2012..

This carrying of wisdom (light) through the darkness (of modern society, lack of connection to the Earth – or literally his background) put me in mind of this card, which has always cropped up at important times in my life..

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your thoughts! It is always much appreciated!
