Too much Information

Everywhere we look we are surrounded by piles of useless information.. and small print.. should we read it all to make sure we don’t leave ourselves ill informed or worse ? Ignorance is no excuse when it comes to the law. You know if I don’t fill in the paperwork and get my image copyrighted it might be stolen.. and if i don’t get my vehicle licensed it might be towed away..
My meter is constantly turning.. how many units have been used today ?
How many vitamins or calories do we need to be happy ?

And the TV tells me everyday we need to know about events in Emerdale, Afghanistan, the Big Brother House, and Tibet ? They released hostages in Columbia yesterday and it rained before the pound rose against the dollar.
Whats the score at Wimbledon ? In case I am asked ? I must recycle because the planet is dying.

My interest rate has gone down ! The lovely female weather forecaster tells me I need to know there is high pressure over the Atlantic.. the traffic on the M25 is bad today and there are delays after an an accident involving a 71 yr old which is causing long delays for anyone waiting to use the bathroom.

So much detail here and I like very much. A train on the circuit board of chaos…

Interesting isn’t it.. we have so much input.. from how many vitamins and calories in a packet of dehydrated soup.. to TV constantly telling us about events in far flung corners.. a lot of folks feel overloaded with information !

I like all the info within it, wish I could view it even larger than larger and see even more.

Very clever piece. I agree there is too much information. How do I filter it is the question. Great work Andy.

I’ve become quite good at just ignoring most of it, and excellent at forgetting stuff to make room for more stuff in my brain.

You’ve hit the nail squarely on the head, Andy. I now spend long periods taking in little information beyond what my senses and my friends tell me – and I ignore or forget a lot of what my friends tell me if they’ve got it from the media – that’s why I’ve been spending so much time in Italy without TV, without much intenet access, and without enough grasp of the nuances of the Italian language to take in too much information. I love your image, as an aesthetic experience in its own right.

Another great piece of work Andy!! Like a blue print for frenzy. Nice slice of 21st century living….well…if ‘nice’ is at all descriptive of any part of this century!! lol Also resembles an electrical schematic, from a distance.

Thanks Kath.. that’s the second time somebody has compared my work to electronic circuitry.. and I can honestly say I have never considered it. But its interesting..
